MIC Check

Today’s Most Important Challenge is…

Immanuel Approach Memo

Continued from Listening

I am… standing still.

The dance of my redeemed hawk-selves
Has ended

My body
Feels at peace
Though my brain
Is still infected

I look for Jesus.

He is holding a conductor’s baton
The hawks are lined up in neat rows
They begin to sing

I can’t find my place
I am still too human
My body too awkward
My brain too untrustworthy
To join the avian choir

I cry out for Jesus.

He smiles
Shifts the rhythm of his baton

The hawks part
And form a circle around me

Singing their hearts out
Singing a song of love
Redemption
Forgiveness
Acceptance
Welcome

I fall to my knees.

The scales fall from my eyes
The world becomes semi-transparent

I can see the blood of Jesus
Flowing in my hawk-selves
And in me

I look in the mirror
And I see the blood of Jesus
Surrounding the black bile
Of my infected brain

I cry out:

“Who will deliver me
From this body of death?”

The choir ceases.

All is calm
All is quiet

Jesus walks towards me
His baton
Has become a scalpel

Sharp
Slim
Dangerous

He holds it up
It glistens in the light
My blood runs cold

Jesus looks to me.

He says:

“Are you ready?”

To be continued

Reflection

I feel…

  • Frozen
  • Immovable
  • Horror
  • Desperation
  • Awe
  • Contrition

Scripture

“It was my hand that laid the foundations of the earth, my right hand that spread out the heavens above. When I call out the stars, they all appear in order.”‭‭‬‬
