I am… horrified.

How can I eat the living flesh
And drink the flowing blood
Of Jesus
Even if He
Has the form a hawk?

Someone takes my hand.

I look down
It is one of my redeemed selves
Now also a hawk
The ten-year-old child
Jesus redeemed

He pushes up his glasses

“You can call me Decade
I will show you the way”

I look to Jesus.

He is reclining at the table
Decade walks over to Him
Humbly
Reverently
Devoutly

Jesus looks to Decade.

Decade looks back
In that glance
I can see all the pain
Failure
Frustration
Betrayal
Denial
Trauma

That was washed away
By the blood of Jesus

A deep thirst
Starts to grow within me

Jesus looks to me.

“Come and dine”

Decade bows his head
And uses his beak
To prick Jesus’ wing

A single drop of blood
Wells up
Red as a ruby

I follow Decade

Walking to Jesus
Like a man to his own funeral
Feeling the weight of my sins
Dragging me down
With each step

I bow my head
To lick the blood of Jesus
Like a dog cleansing a wound

And I am enlightened!
