Concluding You-Carry-Outs
I am… dissolving.
The bitter cup
Of my hindbrain toxicity
Is eating my macrophage self
I look to Jesus.
This
Is exactly what I feared would happen
Why
Would He do this to me?
“My God, My God
Why have You forsaken me?”
Jesus looks to me.
With infinite compassion
But perfect resolve
He says:
“Watch
Through my eyes”
And somehow
I do.
A thousand times magnified
I see the war
Of atoms and molecules
Becoming a dance
Of death
The angry toxins
Rip apart
The very fiber of my being
Like the whip
That scourged His flesh
Organelles
Assault the nucleus
Protecting all the genes
He Himself gave me
Like a crown of thorns
Piercing His brain
I cry out:
Jesus shouts:
“Not all!”
Somehow
He takes me by the chin
And directs my gaze
At a single atom of gold
Hidden by the DNA
Now crumbling away
White Gold
Solomon’s gold
The pearl of great price
The Philosopher’s Stone
The elixir of life
That could only be activated by death
I gasp in awe.
As the toxins
On the throes of horrid victory
Become undone
By contact
With the Royal Blood of Jesus
Not destroyed
Transformed
Redeemed
Purified
Reborn
They learn from me
I gain from them
They gain
Identification with Christ
I learn
Their passion and power
Together
We become dendritic cells
Filled with holy zeal
To activate others
As we were activated
Not to conquer
Not to judge
But to enter in
To the deepest
Darkest
Hidden pain
And die
To bring His life
And light
Amen.
