Continued from Unthreatened

I am… consuming.

Though just a simple red blood cell
I eat the living heart of Jesus
To make room for blood to flow
From and to my damaged heart

In the process
I seem to be changing
From red to white

I look to Jesus.

He smiles
Through the pain

“You once were defined
By your need for oxygen
But now that you’ve fed on Me
You are defined by My mission”

I pause
Just before I break through

I look at Jesus.

I say:

“Lord, I cannot be
What you ask me to be
I have always been a red cell
Without even the genes
To make my own proteins
How can I digest the poisons
Or even morph to consume them?”

Jesus breathes on me.

He says:

“Receive the Holy Spirit!
He will activate
My genes inside you
That your lack of digestion
Preserved intact”

I am filled
With wonder and resolve
I feel
His life inside me

I gather my strength
And punch through the hole
In the heart of Jesus

Then shoot out the other side!
