[From Before the Woods ]

I am… sick in bed.

My parents misled me
I betrayed my bride
And squandered my inheritance

I am accursed.

I cannot move
I cannot lead
I cannot disciple my children
Much less my subjects

I look to My Father.

He hands me bread
He hands me a cup

He says

“I know
What if feels like
To be a king
Who cannot control His subjects
To be a father
Who cannot control His children”

He pauses
He grasps my chin
He looks me in the eye

“But
Your shame
Is My glory”

He takes the cup
of forgiveness
And pours it over my eyes

I see
That all of this was planned
Once upon a time

And that I
Had to become weak
So that others
Could become strong

He takes the bread

Of suffering
Breaks it
Eats it
Gives it to me

My legs
Become strong
I leap
From the bed

My Father speaks

“Now
That you have learned
The secret of weakness
It is time
To learn
The secret of strength”
