With the rain of Jesus
Leaving me
As disembodied eyes

I look for Jesus.

He is the rain
Soaking into everything
Everyone

Filling dry mouths
Parched souls
Empty hearts

He is the river in the gutter
Moving a toy sailboat
For an abandoned child

He is the hurricane
Destroying the ego
Of a self-absorbed executive

He is the gentle shower
Refreshing the spirit
Of a tired widow

He is…
I am…

Them

In their point of greatest need
Precisely where God
Seems furthest away

There

Is where I come in
When my eyes see them
When my “I”s disappear
