I am… alone.

I thought
When I denied myself
And took up a cross
To save others
They would be grateful

Maybe
Even join me

I was wrong

They line my path
To mock me
Hurl insults
Imprecations
And worse

I look for Jesus.

And I suddenly realize
I am not alone
I never was

He
Was always there

He
Was already carrying
My cross

But
I didn’t see Him
Trust Him
Recognize Him

Once I do…

The balance shifts.

The heavy cross
Become an easy yoke

The curses of the crowd
Feel like blessings
Because they celebrate
My union with my Savior

My death march
Becomes a wedding march

Because the worst that could happen
To me
Is the best that could happen
For me

Because it only serves
To unite me with Christ
Faster
Stronger
Deeper

Amen.
