Today’s Most Important Challenge is…

  • Reconciling
  • Our individual realities
  • To God
  • And each other
  • (Probably in that order)

Immanuel Approach Memo

Continued from 5/8 IAM: Pivoting

I am… at a dead end.

I have built a straight, level road
In the wrong direction
At the command of Jesus
To avoid the impossible terrain
God’s plan requires

Now what?

I look to Jesus.

He smiles
He whistles

Moles appear
Prairie dogs
Rabbits
Badgers
All kinds of burrowing creatures

Millions
Legions
Myriads
Upon myriads

Somehow
They dig under the road
And lift it up on their shoulders

Others
Form a living river
An impossibly intricate dance
Rotating the road
Filling the valleys
Lowering the mountains

Sacrificing their bodies
To fill the gaps

I weep.

“Lord
Why must it be so costly
Could they not
Have cleared the ground
Beforehand
And spared their lives?”

Jesus looks to me.

His eyes shine with tears
His face shines with joy

“Do not deprive them
Of their glory
Do not judge
What you don’t understand”

I look again.

I see the living creatures
Have become
The Body of Christ

He is the one
Broken and bent
Under the load

They are the ones
Weeping and rejoicing
To share in His glory

It is too much
My brain overloads
My heart overheats
I collapse

To be continued

Reflection

I feel…

  • Small
  • Wretched
  • Privileged
  • Humbled
  • Awestruck

Scripture

And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all humanity together will see it. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.

Isaiah 40:5
