Today’s Most Important Challenge is…

  • Hearing the right voices
  • So I can tell the right story
  • To help myself and others
  • Grow closer to Jesus

Immanuel Approach Memo

Continued from 3/20 IAM: Rooting Out Sin

I am… climbing a vinestalk
To a castle in the air

I am not sure how I got here
After crushing the head of the snake that bit my Achilles heel

But the sword of Jesus is strapped to my back
And the pouch on my belt contains a vial of the snake’s venom

I look for Jesus.

He is far below
Urging me upward
Higher
Further
Faster

I reach the castle

Looking for giants, gold, harps

But they are no longer here
I see enormous furniture
Fantastic kitchens
Vast storehouses
Glorious ballrooms

All empty

There is an air of violence
But no blood or corpses

It is as if the conqueror
Cleaned up after Himself
For me?

I am not even sure why I am here
Until I reach the throne room

There in a crystal case
Sits an fancy crown
With a Ruby in front
Sapphire on the left
Emerald on the right

I swing my sword at the case
But it bounces off

I remove the vial from my pouch
And carefully pour drops of venom onto the corner of the casing

The casing cracks
I use my sword to lever it open
And retrieve the crown

I am sorely tempted to wear the crown
But something warns me not to

Instead
I place it inside my magically-expanding pouch
And climb down the vinestalk

To be continued

Reflection

I feel…

  • Sorrow
  • Gratitude
  • Wary
  • Exalted
  • Curious

Scripture

On that day the LORD of Hosts will be a crown of glory, a diadem of splendor to the remnant of His people,

Isaiah 28:5
