I am… in a ruined city
Or maybe I am the city

The city deserved to fall
Because it was built on lies
Oppression
Division
Hypocrisy

Yet it was beautiful
(If you didn’t look too closely)

My heart breaks
I weep

I look for Jesus.

I can feel Him beside me
But when I open my eyes
I see the people of the city

The ones still moving about
Who haven’t given in to despair
Or left to fight a war

They are angry
Depressed
Or confused

But they are here
They are alive
They are Jesus
