Today’s Most Important Challenge is…

  • Setting up others to succeed
  • Amidst heartbreaking challenges

Immanuel Approach Memo

I am… sitting in hospital

Near the emergency room

Watching people come in

Nothing dramatic
No car accidents
No gunshots

But often gravely serious
Heart attacks
Strokes
Concussions

I don’t know why I’m there
I have no role to play
Nothing wrong with me
That they know how to cure

I look for Jesus.

I don’t see Him.
But I see a phone
On the table next to me

White
Landline
With His picture beside it

My first thought
Is that they put it in the wrong place
It should be in the ER
Where those in need can use it

Then it occurs to me
Maybe they won’t recognize Jesus

Then it occurs to me
This phone is for me

Maybe there are Jesus phones there
And some people are using them

But most of them are too distracted
Like I was
And don’t see the phone
Or assume it is for someone else

Maybe I am here
To call Jesus
On their behalf

I pick up the phone

To be continued…

Reflection

I feel…

  • Embarassed
  • Selfish
  • Dense
  • Empathy
  • Sadness
  • A tiny bit of hope

Scripture

And on that day you will say, “Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name. Make known His deeds among the peoples; Make them remember that His name is exalted.”
Isaiah 12:4
