Continued from Sex 401
I find myself in what appears to be the Camaldolese monastery in Big Sur. Seems an odd place to seek to understand Sex.
F: Not at all! Is not the best way of getting the big picture to study something at a distance?
E: And you would be?
F. Father Time. I watch over everything from the vantage of Eternity.
E. No offense intended, but I’m not sure what I can learn from a celibate like you about Sex.
F. That’s because you only think about what Sex does. As opposed to Why it does it.
E. Huh?
F. You see the small purpose of Sex as procreation, pleasure, and partnership. The reason you are here is to see the Bigger Picture.

Father Time
E. I don’t understand. Can you explain?
Father Time shakes his head.
F. You’re not listening. And even if you were, Sex is not a thing you can comprehend with words. It must be experienced. Stop talking. Look!
He points East.
I see a path
That’s basically all I can see
It glows like the Milky Way
Perhaps it is
My feet glow as I walk along
When I reach the end of the universe
I find a tree
That looks like a cross
I see a spark
I’m expecting the dawn
But it is more like a Big Bang
Unity shattering into a million
Billion
Umptillion pieces
All rushing away from each other at the speed of light
At first
But then
Some slow down
And find each other
Quarks
Gluons
Hadrons
Leptons
As they spin together
They fuse and evolve
Atoms
Molecules
Dust
Gas
Stars
Galaxies
Elements
Planets
Life
All caught up in an ecstatic web
Of consummation
Creation and destruction
Death and birth and life
Each consummation
Both a beginning and an end
It’s own Big Bang
An explosion
That contains
And becomes a context
For something greater
But what?
To be continued
