Immanuel Approach Memo
I am in a dark forest
It is night
Or maybe the foliage is so thick no sunlight penetrates
Or maybe my eyes have gone bad
I don’t know where I am going
But it is important I get there
It is urgent I get there
Before time runs out
I think I am on a path
But I might be imagining it
And I have no guarantee it is the right one
A cold wind begins to blow
I feel very alone
I look for Jesus.
I turn around 360 degrees
Searching for Him
As I do, a gentle light increases all around me
Like dawn, but more bluish
When I complete my circle
I am shocked to see Him
Standing right next to me
He was there all along
Veiled by the darkness
He is smiling
I am on the right path
Because I am with Him
I deny myself
Take up today’s cross
And follow Him
Reflection
I feel…
- Un-alone
- Confident
- Connected
- Reassured
Scripture
“So my advice is, leave these men alone. Let them go. If they are planning and doing these things merely on their own, it will soon be overthrown. But if it is from God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You may even find yourselves fighting against God!”
Acts of the Apostles 5:38-42 NLT
The others accepted his advice. They called in the apostles and had them flogged. Then they ordered them never again to speak in the name of Jesus, and they let them go.
The apostles left the high council rejoicing that God had counted them worthy to suffer disgrace for the name of Jesus. And every day, in the Temple and from house to house, they continued to teach and preach this message: “Jesus is the Messiah.”
