Immanuel Approach Memo
I am …
Adrift of on the ocean
It is pleasant
Though it shouldn’t be
I am riding an inflatable pool float
A yellow and orange inner tube-like thing
Sipping a cool drink
Wearing a parasol hat to keep off the sun
It looks relaxing
Though I am a thousand miles from anywhere
I look for Jesus.
Part of me is hoping He will show up in an ocean liner
To take me away
Because this situation is insane
But He is floating beside me
On a nearly identical pool float
Grinning
So I sigh
And choose to relax
Reflection
I feel…
- Not alone
- Bemused
- Willing to relax (almost)
- Curious
“The Lord took hold of me with his powerful hand and said:
I’m warning you!
Don’t act like these people. Don’t call something a rebellious plot, just because they do, and don’t be afraid of something, just because they are.
I am the one you should fear and respect. I am the holy God, the Lord All-Powerful!
Run to me for protection. I am a rock that will make both Judah and Israel stumble and break their bones. I am a trap that will catch the people of Jerusalem—they will be captured and dragged away.”
Isaiah 8:11-15 CEV
