MIC Check: Immanuel Approach Memo

As we head into Lent 2024 — in the midst of new wars, political division, and broken families and lives — I am feeling God’s urgency to be more strategic in my daily devotionals.

So I am trying two new things, which I hope to make part of my daily blog post.

MIC Check

A “MIC” is my Most Important Challenge: the most agonizing need impacting across contexts — which could be either energy-producing (generative) or energy-draining (anxious).

Identifying this accurately requires deeply listening to my “soul” (which I often identify as my “Right Brain”).

Immanuel Approach Memo

Immanuel Approach (Or Immanuel Encounter) is a guided meditation process for encountering Jesus with our “spirit” (inner reality).

Developed by Dr. Karl Lehman, it is used by a wide range of ministries in different contexts. Three influential ones I am connected to are:

While there are trained facilitators available, the goal is for every Jesus-lover to learn how to encounter Him on their own as part of their regular spiritual practices (alongside Scripture, Community, and Service).

My idiosyncratic take is to “Memo” these experiences by journaling them
In real time as they happen, then blogging the transcript.

Update: Yahweh Approach

After 4/18 IAM: Ascending (Lion King 5 of 5), I was struck that perhaps I may need to look to My Father, rather than Jesus. I plan to call these “YAM” rather than “IAM.”

End Notes

I don’t know if I have enough time to do this every day.

I don’t know if there’s enough time left to not.
