Leaving there, he went, as he so often did, to Mount Olives. The disciples followed him. When they arrived at the place, he said, “Pray that you don’t give in to temptation.”
Luke 22:39-44 MSG
He pulled away from them about a stone’s throw, knelt down, and prayed, “Father, remove this cup from me. But please, not what I want. What do you want?” At once an angel from heaven was at his side, strengthening him.
He prayed on all the harder. Sweat, wrung from him like drops of blood, poured off his face.
Some kinds of habits are nice
Like eating desserts made of ice
Others are really quite sad
Like drinking alone when I’m mad
Yet in Christ’s Kingdom the one
That brings us close to the Son
Which He commands we employ
Is full of both horror and joy
The habit of facing our fears
Mixing our blood with our tears
Seeing God won’t share my will
Choosing which one I will kill
This is the habit that we
Must master to be set free
Of merely human concern
So that His glory we earn
Today I will face
My ugly need for God’s grace
So I share His place
