10/31 Poem: As Your Self

Published by

Matthew 19:19
honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself

The love of Self
It seems to me
May not be what
We think it should be

Self-care is awesome
A healthy respite
Watching a movie
Sleeping at night

But sometimes we need
Quite the opposite
A kick in the pants
For exercise fit

The hardest question
God calls from above:
First ask your Self
Which Self do “I” love?

To coddle false Self
Is actually sin
For it prevents
Our journey’s begin

True love of Self
Is when I enroll
In the Great War
To make myself whole

So bring on the arrows
As standards are crossed
I’ll love my real Self
When old Self is lost

Today I will lose my ego
To gain my freedom
