Life in the city “Authenti”
Isn’t what I thought it would be
They said I could do what I want
Safe from the conformist taunt

That only turns out to be true
When I’m authentic like you
But not when there’s something in me
That threatens your identity

And yet there is something that’s still
Beautiful about that central hill
Worshipped by all citizens
Striving to be the true “them”

Maybe the problem we face
Is that we also need grace
Found on the temple inside
When I let go of my pride

Then the “me” that I become
Need not to your needs be numb
But rather erupts in full bloom
As I learn how to make room

And is the hidden surprise
That now is revealed to my eyes
I find my true authenticity
When I reveal Christ in me

Today I will live
As myself
But not by myself
