What part of Cathy and/or Melinda’s story:
a) feels familiar to you
I also grew up in a conservative Christian family.
The ‘bad theology’ I implicitly received was the idea of God as a “hard taskmaster.”
He kept making me jump through ever-more-difficult hoops.
And the only reward for making it through the hoop…
Was getting a new hoop!
The concept of relationship — or even being me — was totally absent.
And like Cathy, it was only when I encountered Jesus directly that I was finally and truly saved — from my theology!
b) SOUNDS familiar from those you help
There are some specific people I love who, like Melinda, are so “wounded by shame” they don’t know who they are.
And because of how my woundedness interacts with theirs, I don’t think I am always “glad to see them.” :’-(
I am hoping God heals that part of me this week, so I can bring them the joy they need to see Jesus through me…
