9/24 Epic Poem: Re-Pent-Up (Christing)

Today I will feel
Not fear
Your burn

Dear Lord:

I don’t know if You should heal
My heart that is burning with zeal
‘Tis true that Your house is a mess
But so is my own, I confess

Is it too much of an ask
For Christians to stick to the task
Of preaching the good news of Christ
Instead of un-asked-for advice?

I confess it sticks in my craw
How we confuse Gospel with Law
And focus on hiding from pain
Instead of being born again

I’m sure that this must be the root
Of why we don’t bear gracious fruit
Because we’ve stopped bearing a cross
The church — and this world! — is a loss

But even if all of that’s true
That doesn’t mean I’m right with You
The very fact I take offense
Means I am the one who is dense!

For it’s my own religious pride
That zeal must burn up from inside
For it is the urge to condemn
That I have in common with them

For all of us have holy fear
Of letting “their” corruption near
But this is the wild paradox
That Christ dared resolve on the cross

To set the church and the world free
Forgiveness must start within me
By taking on all the world’s sin
So Christing in me can begin

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭69‬:‭5‬-‭9‬ ‭CEV‬‬

“You know my foolish sins.
Not one is hidden from you.
Lord God All-Powerful, ruler of Israel, don’t let me embarrass anyone who trusts and worships you.
It is for your sake alone that I am insulted and blush with shame.
I am like a stranger to my relatives and like a foreigner to my own family.
My love for your house burns in me like a fire, and when others insult you, they insulted me as well.”

‭‭Mark‬ ‭11‬:‭12‬-‭26‬ ‭CEV‬‬

“When Jesus and his disciples left Bethany the next morning, he was hungry. From a distance Jesus saw a fig tree covered with leaves, and he went to see if there were any figs on the tree. But there were none, because it wasn’t the season for figs. So Jesus said to the tree, “Never again will anyone eat fruit from this tree!” The disciples heard him say this.
After Jesus and his disciples reached Jerusalem, he went into the temple and began chasing out everyone who was selling and buying. He turned over the tables of the moneychangers and the benches of those who were selling doves. Jesus would not let anyone carry things through the temple. Then he taught the people and said, “The Scriptures say, ‘My house should be called a place of worship for all nations.’ But you have made it a place where robbers hide!” The chief priests and the teachers of the Law of Moses heard what Jesus said, and they started looking for a way to kill him. They were afraid of him, because the crowds were completely amazed at his teaching.
That evening, Jesus and the disciples went outside the city. As the disciples walked past the fig tree the next morning, they noticed that it was completely dried up, roots and all. Peter remembered what Jesus had said to the tree. Then Peter said, “Teacher, look! The tree you put a curse on has dried up.” Jesus told his disciples: Have faith in God! If you have faith in God and don’t doubt, you can tell this mountain to get up and jump into the sea, and it will. Everything you ask for in prayer will be yours, if you only have faith. Whenever you stand up to pray, you must forgive what others have done to you. Then your Father in heaven will forgive your sins.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭56‬:‭6‬-‭8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“I will also bless the foreigners who commit themselves to the Lord, who serve him and love his name, who worship him and do not desecrate the Sabbath day of rest, and who hold fast to my covenant.
I will bring them to my holy mountain of Jerusalem and will fill them with joy in my house of prayer.
I will accept their burnt offerings and sacrifices, because my Temple will be called a house of prayer for all nations.
For the Sovereign Lord, who brings back the outcasts of Israel, says: I will bring others, too, besides my people Israel.”
