9/20 Epic Poem: Gender Identity

God made us women and men
And that’s when the trouble began!
The roles that we started out in
Got all mixed up by our sin

The world has its reasons to doubt
The church has it all figured out
Though I have concerns, I confess
Their choices might increase the mess

Maybe the way to make sense
Of untangling this thicket dense
Is realizing that biology
Points to bigger destiny

Women and men must give birth
In order to fill up the earth
But for God’s kingdom to reign
We all must needs be born again

I do not wish to make light
Of all of the issues we fight
But if we want to reach Zion
Sex ain’t the hill we should die on

Gender wars may have their place
But I choose to battle for grace
So broken sinners like me
Can come to the cross and be free

For I yet still dare to believe
That when you and I grace receive
We will see Christ come with awe
And no longer fight over Law

Today I will find my identity
In Christ alone
Through His Grace
Not our Law
