The Dream
I am working at a medium-sized company.
I have been away for a while.
I come back to my shared office in the basement.
My neighbor is a young Asian lawyer.
I see her nameplate. Sarai Boyton?
She is just arriving.
I get to my desk and find a folder there.
It is from our HR director.
Apparently about something I missed while I was gone.
I pop it open.
It looks like instructions for a murder mystery game.
Not sure why she’d bother saving those.
I don’t bother looking inside to see if there’s anything else.
Later we have an all-hands meeting in the big conference room.
I am standing near the front, on the left.
Not where anyone is paying attention to me.
The head of HR comes up to me.
She asks if I got the folder.
I nod, somewhat absently.
She grabs my arm and says it is time for my procedure.
I am too embarrassed to admit I hadn’t read it.
I assume it was some sort of blood test release hidden along the other papers.
She seems annoyed about having to do this.
She drags me to a nearby table.
She grumbles: “I didn’t want to be doing this. I should be having fun and using children.”
That was odd.

She grabs my left hand with hers.
In her right hand is a small but very sharp pair of scissors.
Probably used to cut fingernails.
She gets ready to cut my thumb off at the knuckle!
I jerk my hand back.
I grab her by the shoulders.
I look at her face.
She appears dazed.
I realize she is being controlled by a demon.
I say, “In Jesus name, I command you to stop.”
I look over and see my friend Robby sitting on the floor nearby.
I motion him to come over.
I whisper that I need him to cast out the demon.
I lead them to a quiet corner.
Robby sits down on the floor facing her.
He holds each of her hands.
He speaks softly and gently.
Then my alarm goes off!
