12/19 Poem: Beginner’s End

Published by

If we hope to finish the race
We must be willing to face
The limits of our competence
Even before we commence

For life is a long marathon
And only the humble move on
Past the early and exciting part
Through deserts that war in our heart

If I have a kingdom to win
I must come to terms with my sin
And realize my worst enemy
Is really no other than me

So all of the ego and pride
That once drew others to my side
I now must begin to lay down
For only the cross wins a crown
